Michigan high school games use the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Playing Rules, which are published along with the Swimming and Diving Rules. They are typically available in early to mid-August each school year. NFHS does not publish the rules online. National Association of Sports Officials

Membership in NASO includes liability insurance for officials for any game that they work. General officiating news, major sports rules updates and interpretations, and officiating instruction and philosophy are provided in Referee magazine

USA Water Polo, Inc. (USWP) is the National Governing Body for water polo, and a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee. The USWP website is full of information on national and regional events, development, rules, and other beneficial information. Although USWP membership is not required for participation in Michigan high school water polo, it is required for any USWP-sanctioned tournaments, games, or camps.

USWP Officiating Manual

This manual complements the Playing Rules and Interpretations. Referees are responsible for knowing and applying the techniques and interpretations found in this guide. It may be ordered by contacting the USWP Office at 719-634-0699 or uswpoffice@uswp.org.
